Anyways, I was explaining the story to my ex one time and I got caught up in that line. Everything's eventual. I started thinking about what it actually meant. Everything is eventual. Nothing lasts. It all ends. And that hit me hard. Like deep in the gonads. #dickkick #thefeels #owmyfeelings It hit me so deep, so deep, so deep, it put my ass to sleep. Wow.... I'll try to stay on track and cut out the Ice Cube references.
Everything eventually ends. Good. Bad. In between. Everything is eventual.
So to me this isn't a negative thing. I see it as positive. Bad times will pass. Sadness will ultimately come to an end. Sorrows will be washed away in time. Pains will eventually heal. And if you think it's a good idea to rock a mullet in 2014, your hair will grow back and people will stop making fun of you. Hopefully. All in time. I love quotes; one of my favorites is, "It can't rain all the time." From The Crow, if you didn't know (my rhymes though). I love that movie. If you can't read at least go watch that. But this line has a similar meaning. The clouds will pass and the sun will come out. Warning: sunburns may follow. Pale kids, where you at?
On the other side of things, good times won't last either. Because like cool guy in the book said, "Everything's eventual." I don't see this as a negative though. It just means that you should appreciate what you have while you have it. Happiness is so amazing and valuable. Literally what everyone should strive for in life. It's one of our inalienable rights, for Petah's sake. Its power level is over 9000. But it too is eventual. So don't take things that make you happy for granted. Whether it be free time, a girlfriend/boyfriend, time with your family, time away from your family, or even catching that pokemon that you've always wanted. Cherish those moments. Really take time to soak them in and understand how valuable they are. Because no matter how much you think something is going to last or be around forever, everything's eventual.
Another thing I say all the time is, "What a day!" Most people see that as a negative too. Bunch of negative Nancys. But it isn't. I don't say it because I'm having a bad day. It's just me taking a few seconds to really reflect on the day and let go of the bad and cherish the good.
I know that everything is eventual. And that doesn't scare me. I've taken that as a motto of mine. I phrase to live by. I feel good about it. I love deeper and don't worry so much about things. I tell my feelings more and have deeper connections with people. I've learned not to let things effect my emotions as much as they used to. Because fuck it. *flip bump* Everything's eventual!
I've wondered about the same thing myself and why he chose the title for the book. I think he just pulled the line for the title as something totally unrelated to the story in the book, but rather as his own or perhaps the reader's inflection.
ReplyDeleteI interpreted the same meaning as you: "Everything ends". But again, it's how you look at it. It could mean friends will leave you, your kids will move out and far away, or your parents will die. Or it can mean you'll finally get the job you've been wanting, or move to Florida and live on a beach.
The former applies to me as I get older.
Maybe it means: everything you hope or fear will eventually happen... maybe not to you or not in your lifetime, but will some time happen to someone, sometime.. Law of probability
ReplyDeleteThere is no empty space in the Universe. "Everything's Eventual" to let other things get their new start.
ReplyDeleteYour writing's good. Alive. Not boring. Unlike pretty much everything else I read. I mean, damn, You could write about shit with this tone and the way you go off and on topic and I'd read all of it for eternity.
ReplyDeletethen again ... everythin's eventual ... maybe I'd stop somewhere
The crazy thing about this book, and this saying, is something also sad. My mother died Sept 05th 2019 to cancer, and this book still sits open on her bedside. The phrase, and the book itself make me awful sad but it's true. Everything is eventual. Death. Sickness. Heartbreak. Loss. It's very strange that was the novel she left out. She was a huge King fan and reread his stories over and over.
